Spain - Formation as a fundamental pillar of Salesian communication
Spain - November 2025 - A formation session on how to create press releases was held on 13 November, led by Fr Javier Valiente, SDB, National Delegate for Communication. Almost fifty communication managers from Salesian houses in Spain attended this formation session to learn how to create press releases on the main events taking place in their communities. At the beginning of his presentation, the speaker explained that the press release is the fundamental element of Institutional Communication, stating that it is not advertising, but rather an informative text. ‘To write it, we have to put ourselves in the shoes of the person who will receive it,’ he explained. He also pointed out that most journalists appreciate receiving press releases because this way they learn about the work done in each Salesian home, school or community. During the event, the communication officers learnt how to create and use press releases. They will be provided with a press release template to guide them in creating their own. The session ended with a time for dialogue, questions and practical advice. Fr Valiente encouraged participants to start using this resource as a media communication tool. ‘In institutional communication, the language must be objective, understandable and useful. In addition, any evaluative adjectives must be translated into facts. We have to be clear, direct and precise,’ he advised the managers.
